Security Mock Drills Conducted at 16 Locations Across the State
Mumbai : In the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs directed all states to conduct security mock drills on Wednesday, May 7, to assess preparedness for various emergency scenarios. Accordingly, mock drills were conducted at 16 locations across Maharashtra.

In Mumbai, the mock drill was carried out at Cross Maidan. The event was attended by senior officials including Additional Director General of Police (Civil Defence) Prabhas Kumar and Director General of the Home Guards Ritesh Kumar. Participants in the drill included the police, NDRF, civil defence volunteers, home guards, railway police, local municipal bodies, district administration, NSS, and NCC. Additionally, a blackout mock drill was held in Anushakti Nagar.
Mock drills were conducted in several other locations across the state, including Mumbai, Uran-JNPT, Tarapur, Pune, Thane, Nashik, Thal-Vaishet, Roha-Dhatav-Nagothane, Manmad, Sinnar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Bhusawal, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
During the drills, citizens were trained in self-protection techniques. Special focus was placed on how to respond to air raid sirens and blackout situations. Residents were instructed to keep medical kits, extra medicines, flashlights, and candles at home. Additionally, they were advised to keep sufficient cash on hand in case mobile networks and digital transactions fail during emergencies.
