India Gifts 15 EVs to Nepal to Support Sagarmatha Dialogue

In a strong show of friendship and regional cooperation, India has gifted 15 electric vehicles to Nepal to assist with the organisation of the first-ever “Sagarmatha Dialogue,” scheduled to take place in Kathmandu from May 16–18, 2025. The event will focus on the theme “Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.”

Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, handed over the EVs to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzoo Rana Deuba during a formal ceremony in Kathmandu. The Indian Embassy noted that the gift was made at Nepal’s request to help strengthen logistical arrangements for the high-profile international dialogue.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Srivastava said the vehicles would support the smooth movement of officials and dignitaries during the conference. He also recalled India’s past support to Nepal, including logistical aid during the country’s 2022 federal and provincial elections. He reaffirmed India’s ongoing commitment to work closely with Nepal for mutual growth and development.

Foreign Minister Arzoo Rana Deuba expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of India, acknowledging its long-standing role as one of Nepal’s key development partners. She welcomed India’s support in organising the Sagarmatha Dialogue and emphasized the importance of such gestures in strengthening bilateral ties.

India and Nepal share deep-rooted cultural and historical connections, and their partnership spans various sectors, including infrastructure, education, health, and energy. This latest gesture is part of India’s continued efforts to support Nepal’s development journey and promote closer people-to-people relations.

The Sagarmatha Dialogue is expected to draw participation from global leaders, policymakers, climate experts, and academics, and will serve as an important platform to address pressing environmental challenges affecting the Himalayan region and beyond.
