World’s Tallest Statue of Swami Vivekananda to Be Installed in Indore: CM Dr. Yadav
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav performed the Bhoomi-Pujan on Sunday for the installation of the world’s tallest statue of Swami Vivekananda at the Devi Ahilya Sarovar Garden in Sirpur, Indore. This historic initiative aims to bring the life and philosophy of great personalities closer to the new generation. The grand statue will serve as a powerful medium to disseminate Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and spiritual vision among the masses.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that India has a rich tradition of saints and spiritual leaders, among whom Swami Vivekananda stood as an extraordinary figure. As a worshipper of the formless Divine, he dedicated his life to the service of humanity. Swami Vivekananda believed in the principle: “Only when I see, shall I believe,” reflecting his rational and scientific temperament.
Dr. Yadav noted that Swami Vivekananda imparted the message of serving life through the body and achieved self-realisation by conquering mortality. Rejecting weakness and inferiority as traits of life, he equated them with death and emphasised that with courage, strength, and inner conviction, all weaknesses could be overcome.
He described Swami Vivekananda’s life as a symbol of renunciation, service, and self-awakening. His historic address at the Parliament of Religions in Chicago was a living embodiment of the ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), which raised the flag of Indian culture and spirituality on the global stage. Swami Vivekananda advocated an inward journey of development and regarded karma (action) as a form of spiritual practice.
Dr. Yadav called upon all citizens to follow Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, which remain highly relevant even today. He urged everyone to spread his ideas to every corner of society for holistic development. The installation of this statue is a significant step in that direction.
Urban Administration and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya proposed the establishment of a library alongside the statue, featuring literature related to Swami Vivekananda. He stated that such a library would guide and inspire youth to lead successful and purposeful lives.
Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav said the statue will not only familiarise youth with Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy but will also inspire them to walk the path he showed. He stressed that Swami Ji’s ideals are deeply relevant for today’s generation and that this memorial would give permanent form to those values.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat, Member of Parliament Shri Shankar Lalwani, Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav, MLAs Smt. Malini Gaur, Shri Ramesh Mendola, and Shri Rakesh Shukla, former MLAs Shri Jeetu Jirati and Shri Sudarshan Gupta, Shri Sumit Mishra, and a large number of citizens and representatives were present on the occasion.
Construction and Development
The statue will be sculpted by renowned artist Shri Naresh Kumawat, who has created several prestigious statues across the country. A special gallery dedicated to the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda will also be established at the site, featuring photographs, documents, and digital displays to inspire youth. The site will become a new symbol of Indore’s cultural pride and an important centre for tourism development.
The total height of the statue, including its structural base, will be approximately 52 feet. Around 14 tonnes of various metal alloys will be used in its construction to ensure resistance to water and weather, and long-term durability.
