Universities should become symbols of social justice and empowerment : Governor Shri Patel
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that universities should become a symbol of Babasaheb’s legacy of social justice and empowerment. The academic activities of the university should be inspired by Babasaheb’s thoughts and biography. The campus should present a living ideal of social harmony. Governor Shri Patel was addressing the fifth meeting of the governing body of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Social Science University, Mhow, at the Raj Bhavan. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor Shri K.C. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of Higher Education Shri Anupam Rajan, and Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Ramdas Gomaji Atram.
Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel said that the objective of the university is not only to confer degrees to students. The aim of the university is to increase the interest of the future generation in the life values of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar, his struggle for social justice and equality, and his work for the upliftment of the underprivileged. Governor Shri Patel said that the university should not remain dependent on the government for financial resources. Efforts should be made for financial self-reliance. The university should implement development plans in coordination with the government.
Decisions of Executive Council presented for approval
The provision of a member elected by the Executive Council in the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee was amended by the Executive Council and the decision of the member nominated by the state government was unanimously approved in the meeting of the governing body. Similarly, the decision of the Executive Council to change the designations of the Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university to Kulguru and Prati Kulguru respectively was also approved in the meeting.
The fifth meeting of the governing body was attended by Principal Secretary of Tribal Affairs Shri Gulshan Bamra, Principal Secretary of Law and Legislative Affairs Shri N. P. Singh, Principal Secretary of Scheduled Caste Welfare Shri E. Ramesh Kumar, Additional Secretary to the Governor Shri Umashankar Bhargav, members of the governing body, Director of Social Sciences, Research and Training Shri Deepak Kumar Verma, Dean Ms. Manisha Saxena, Secretary of the Governing Body Shri Kaushlendra Verma, and other officials.
