CST to Undergo Major Redevelopment with ₹2,800 Crore Allocation: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations across India under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, including 15 stations from Maharashtra, among them Parel, Chinchpokli, Matunga, and Wadala Road in Mumbai.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, participated in the national ceremony via video link from Parel Railway Station. Speaking to the media afterward, CM Fadnavis announced a major redevelopment plan for Mumbai’s iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — under which the station will be modernized with an allocation of ₹2,800 crore.
CM Fadnavis emphasized that initiatives such as Vande Bharat Rail, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat Station Scheme are driving a transformative change in Indian Railways. He highlighted that, under PM Modi’s leadership, India has built a rail network in the past 11 years that now exceeds the length of Germany’s rail system.
“Railway stations across the country are being developed to the standard of airports,” said Fadnavis. “Modern amenities that were once limited to airports will now be accessible to the common citizen at railway stations, thanks to the Amrit Bharat Station initiative.”
He also stated that the redevelopment of Parel, Chinchpokli, Matunga, and Wadala Road suburban stations in Mumbai, along with 11 other stations in Maharashtra, has been completed and inaugurated. CM Fadnavis concluded by saying that Indian Railways is now joining the ranks of the world’s most advanced railway systems.
