Diya Kumari Reviews Monsoon Preparations, Instructs to Keep Roads Smooth to Prevent Public Transport Disruptions

Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari has directed Public Works Department (PWD) officials to remain on high alert during the upcoming monsoon season. She emphasized that all necessary pre-monsoon maintenance of roads must be completed so that transportation and traffic run smoothly and without interruption during the rains. On Tuesday, the Deputy CM chaired a meeting at the Construction Bhawan to review monsoon readiness.

Diya Kumari instructed that wherever water tends to accumulate, temporary drains should be dug to channel off water and prevent pooling. She further directed that any erosion or potholes caused by rain on the road network should be filled and repaired promptly at the initial stage. The Deputy CM noted that approvals have already been granted for repairs to damaged culverts and road shoulders (rampats), and she urged officials to expedite these works. She warned that if any negligence by PWD personnel during the monsoon leads to road damage and subsequent traffic disruptions, strict action will be taken against those responsible.

Additionally, Diya Kumari ordered officials to inspect all older government buildings and immediately declare any dilapidated structures unsafe, ensuring they are vacated without delay. She also directed the relevant authorities to establish a control room immediately to manage emergency situations arising from heavy rainfall and flooding.

The Deputy CM stressed that for every newly constructed highway and other roads across the state, provisions must be made for proper drainage so that repeated road washouts due to waterlogging can be prevented.

Weekly Divisional Reviews to Commence

Diya Kumari announced that starting this month, weekly divisional review meetings will be held to ensure the effective and timely execution of road projects across the state. These meetings will review the progress of all road projects in each division, including budget allocations and related works.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Deputy CM examined the progress of divisional road projects and the status of monsoon preparations. Present alongside her were ACS Praveen Gupta, Secretary D.R. Meghwal, Chief Engineer and Additional Secretary T.C. Gupta, as well as PWD and NHAI officials. Divisional and district-level officers participated via video conference.
