Say No to Single-Use Plastic; This Is Support for Environmental Conservation – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai : The damage caused by climate change can certainly be averted through environmental conservation. Plastic is the greatest enemy of the environment, and rejecting the use of “single-use plastic” is indeed an endorsement of environmental conservation, declared Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He also appealed that everyone participate in this year’s government-led campaign to plant 10 crore trees and contribute to environmental protection.
On World Environment Day in Bandra, in a joint effort by the Bhamla Foundation and the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a global climate change awareness campaign at an event held in the amphitheater. The program was attended by Goa State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Mumbai Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Dinesh Pallevada, Bhamla Foundation’s Asif Bhamla, actress Raveena Tandon, Godrej Company’s Nadir Godrej, and lyricist Swanand Kirkire.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “By using as little plastic as possible, we must prevent harm to the environment. With modern technology, it is possible to produce biodegradable plastics. We should manufacture biodegradable plastics that serve as alternatives to conventional plastic. In the tree‐planting campaigns being carried out in the state, not only will trees be planted, but measures to keep the trees alive will be implemented with the help of artificial intelligence. This campaign will also focus on the conservation of planted trees.”
He added, “The country’s largest wastewater treatment network is being built in Mumbai, and in the future, all sewage going into Mumbai’s seas will be fully treated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a net-zero target by 2030. Of the nation’s total energy demand, 50 percent is intended to come from traditional energy sources. Maharashtra is leading in this effort, and the state has begun working to meet 16,000 megawatts of the agricultural sector’s energy needs from solar power by 2026. All public transport services in the state’s metropolitan areas are being converted to green energy. This transition has already begun in Mumbai. Additionally, Mumbai’s entire transportation ticketing system is being unified under a ‘single‐ticketing’ principle,” said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
During the event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the “Pyaasa” awareness campaign, featuring actor Ajay Devgn, focused on environmental conservation and the ban on single-use plastic.
