“Take strict action to prevent ‘drunk and drive’ – Chief Minister Eknath Shinde”
Mumbai : To curb cases of drunk driving in Mumbai, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to take strict action. He has instructed to conduct checks at roads, intersections, major busy spots, and checkpoints, and take stringent measures against drunk driving cases. Additionally, instructions have been given to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the police administration to take action against pubs and bars that violate the rules.
Chief Minister Shinde emphasized increasing the number of checks, especially at night and during weekends. He called for strict action and fines for those driving under the influence of alcohol, and stringent measures against repeat offenders, including revoking their licenses. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation and police administration have been instructed to regularly inspect pubs, bars, and restaurants. This includes checking their operating hours, noise pollution regulations, and necessary permits. Actions should be taken against bars, pubs, and restaurants operating late at night, including revoking their licenses. The municipal and police administrations should work in coordination for this purpose, CM Shinde directed.
Chief Minister Shinde also stressed the need to raise public awareness about the adverse effects of drunk driving. He instructed all relevant administrative bodies to take strict action to ensure public safety and law and order.
