Ideal Lifestyle Can Help Prevent Diabetes – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Inauguration of the ‘Hello Diabetes’ International Conference

Nagpur : Due to urbanization, dietary habits rooted in traditional lifestyles have undergone unhealthy changes, resulting in an increase in various diseases at a younger age. By adopting an ideal lifestyle, it is indeed possible to prevent diabetes, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the inauguration of the 12th International ‘Hello Diabetes’ Conference held at Hotel Centre Point today.

The conference was jointly organized by the Diabetes Care & Research Center and the Diabetes Care Foundation of India. It was inaugurated by CM Fadnavis in the presence of founder president Dr. Sunil Gupta, Dr. Rati Makkar, Padma Shri awardees Dr. Shashank Joshi and Dr. Kamalakar Tripathi, along with Dr. A.K. Das, Dr. Bansi Sabu, Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Dr. Kavita Gupta, physicians, specialists, and researchers from the medical field.

The Chief Minister noted that the rising prevalence of diabetes and obesity in India is a serious concern. He emphasized that such awareness-driven conferences play a significant role in ensuring India does not become the diabetes capital of the world. In response to lifestyle-related diseases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched initiatives like the Fit India Movement to prioritize health awareness.

Calling for deeper research on diabetes, CM Fadnavis said it is crucial to raise awareness about its causes, treatments, and the adoption of healthy lifestyles. He stressed that awareness remains the first and most effective treatment for this disease, which weakens a person’s physical capabilities. He also mentioned the growing challenge of diabetes in pregnant women and newborns, expressing hope that the insights gained from this conference would help ensure the next generation remains free of diabetes.

One of the biggest challenges, he said, is the reluctance among many individuals to accept their diabetes diagnosis. These conferences are expected to offer proper guidance—not just on medical treatment but also on lifestyle improvements—so that people can tackle the disease without fear. He also expressed confidence that the thoughts and ideas exchanged among national experts and doctors would guide effective diabetes treatment protocols.

Chief Minister Fadnavis praised Dr. Sunil Gupta for his consistent efforts in spreading awareness about diabetes through numerous programs and research publications. He lauded Dr. Gupta’s dedication and encouraged him to continue his mission.

Dr. Sunil Gupta, in his opening remarks, said the conference would feature discussions on the causes of diabetes, its management, and ideal lifestyles, with participation from renowned national and international diabetes experts. The three-day event will include presentations related to diabetes and a series of specialized workshops.
