Clean Drinking Water in Gadchiroli Schools Under Hyundai Motor’s ‘Project H2OPE’ – Praised by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has praised Hyundai Motor’s social initiative ‘Project H2OPE’ for providing access to clean drinking water in schools located in remote, tribal, and Naxal-affected areas of Gadchiroli district.

Chief Minister Fadnavis had envisioned a project under corporate social responsibility to ensure clean drinking water for schoolchildren in the remote parts of Gadchiroli, a district identified as aspirational. Responding to his vision, Hyundai took up the cause, and under their collaboration, this initiative has been launched in 250 schools. Commending the efforts aimed at social welfare and community development, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the initiative will be further expanded.

The project was implemented in two phases. In the first phase last year, clean drinking water facilities were provided in 100 schools. In the second phase this year, the facilities were extended to 150 schools—35 in Aheri, 14 in Bhamragad, 32 in Dhanora, 39 in Etapalli, 14 in Korchi, and 16 in Mulchera. Through this initiative, a total of 26,341 students have gained access to clean drinking water. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the availability of safe water would lead to significant improvement in both health and education outcomes for thousands of students in the district.

Hyundai Motor India Limited, a leading automobile manufacturer, is committed to sustainable development. Under its water conservation initiative ‘Project H2OPE’, the company has aimed to expand access to safe drinking water in schools across Gadchiroli. This initiative is specifically targeted at government schools in rural areas to provide clean and safe drinking water. So far, the project has been implemented in 250 schools, benefitting thousands of students.

Based on a survey conducted in the district, 100 schools were selected for the first phase and 150 for the second. These schools were equipped with Reverse Osmosis (RO) units, water coolers, submersible pumps, borewells, and six-layered storage tanks. Awareness sessions on water conservation and hygiene were also conducted. Hyundai, under its CSV (Creating Shared Value) policy, has invested a total of ₹5.5 crore in this project, as per company sources.
