Under the visionary Dravidian Model governance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu continues its path of rapid urban development through the implementation of major infrastructure and public welfare projects.
Key Allocations and Projects:
- Rs. 9,011.45 Crore allocated for 71 Drinking Water Projects, benefiting 12.137 million people across 4 Corporations, 13 Municipalities, 49 Town Panchayats, and 10,565 rural habitations.
- Rs. 1,777.42 Crore for 17 Underground Sewerage Schemes in 3 Corporations, 8 Municipalities, and 6 Town Panchayats.
- Rs. 6,655.80 Crore for Drinking Water and Park Development across Municipalities and Corporations.
- Rs. 4,673.60 Crore to repair 9,358.10 km of roads and Rs. 2,377 Crore for 5,693 new road projects.
- Rs. 4,276.44 Crore allocated for India’s largest seawater desalination plant to supply drinking water in a Town Panchayat.
- Rs. 3,360 Crore for underground sewerage systems in 14 Corporations.
- Rs. 3,057.74 Crore for 8,065 road works.
- Rs. 1,120.29 Crore for the construction of 99 new bus stands in Municipalities and Town Panchayats.
- Rs. 732.84 Crore for 3,65,696 streetlights and 1,39,193 LED lights.
- Rs. 395 Crore for 1,384 new classrooms in schools.
- Rs. 194 Crore for 100 Libraries and Knowledge Centers, with an additional Rs. 36.96 Crore for new libraries in 168 Town Panchayats.
- Rs. 107.74 Crore for drinking water improvement in newly annexed areas of Chennai Corporation.
Additional Highlights:
- 1652 Compassionate Ground Appointments in local bodies and the Chennai Water Board.
- Annual allocation of Rs. 1,000 Crore to urban local bodies; Rs. 5,000 Crore under the Kalaignar Urban Development Scheme, and Rs. 582 Crore (plus public contributions) under “Namakku Naame” (Our Own Scheme).
- Urban Employment Scheme: 2.04 lakh job identity cards issued; 12.71 lakh man-days created (2021–2023).
- Under the Solid Waste Management Action Plan: 42,225 individual household toilets, 545 public toilets, 614 urinals, 154 composting centers, and 561 material recovery facilities established.
- Smart Cities Mission: Rs. 10,639.80 Crore for 11 Corporations.
- 28 new bus stands and office buildings in newly upgraded municipalities completed or nearing completion.
- Stormwater drains spanning 109 km completed at a cost of Rs. 270.83 Crore to prevent urban flooding in Chennai suburbs.
- 177 new shelters under National Urban Livelihoods Mission, 4,577 pushcarts for vendors, and 10 market places established.
- E-governance initiatives rolled out in 24 Corporations and 134 Municipalities.
- Under “Makkaludan Mudhalvar” and “Mudhalvarin Mugavari”, over 99% of petitions have been resolved.
Major Inaugurations:
- Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated:
- Rs. 584 Crore worth drinking water projects and Rs. 1,043 Crore worth sewerage and STP works benefiting 40.03 lakh people in newly added Chennai Corporation areas.
- A 150 MLD seawater desalination plant in Nemmeli costing Rs. 1,516.82 Crore, benefiting 9 lakh people.
- Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated:
- Rs. 431.49 Crore worth projects including pipelines, water tanks, and sewerage systems, benefiting 19.94 lakh people.
Innovative Welfare:
- 100 jetting and grabbing vehicles handed over to sanitation workers to turn them into entrepreneurs.
- Administrative approval given for ongoing schemes worth Rs. 4,198.91 Crore; foundation laid for projects worth Rs. 6,829.26 Crore.
Education and Infrastructure:
- 231 new classrooms in Corporations and 281 classrooms in Municipalities under construction.
- Under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0: 36,581 household toilets, 378 community toilets, 50 public toilets, and 185 urinals completed.
Best Performing Town Panchayats Honoured:
- Chief Minister’s Awards given to Karunguzhi, Kanniyakumari, Vikravandi, Alangudi, Cholavandan, Sulur, S. Kannanur, and Kallidaikurichi.
- Keezhvelur Town Panchayat awarded in Swachh Survekshan.
Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Achievements:
- For the first time in 43 years, Chennai is supplying 1,000 MLD of water (since September 2021).
- Super sucker and jetting machines deployed during North East monsoon for flood relief with 2,000 field workers.
Conclusion:
Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s urban transformation is setting national benchmarks. The Dravidian Model is not only creating infrastructure but also uplifting people’s lives through inclusive governance.
