Yogi govt rolls out 4-point strategy to make UP’s 40 PSEs efficient, transparent and citizen-centric

Lucknow : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is revamping the state’s 40 public sector enterprises (PSEs), bringing them under a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing their efficiency, transparency, and public orientation. This reform is expected to directly benefit citizens by improving essential services such as electricity, water, and infrastructure.

Currently, 97.58% of the capital in these PSEs is concentrated in the energy sector, while the remaining 2.42% is allocated to services, construction, manufacturing, finance, and trade. Key enterprises such as Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), and UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) form the economic backbone of the state. To modernize and empower these institutions, the Yogi government has adopted a focused four-point strategy.

The four-point strategy:

  1. Strengthening governance
  2. Capacity building of officials
  3. Adoption of modern technology and benchmarking practices
  4. Streamlining financial management

This approach will significantly improve the accessibility and affordability of basic services for all citizens. For example, better power supply under UPPCL will boost local industries in rural areas and create employment opportunities. The use of advanced technologies such as smart meters and cybersecurity frameworks will ensure greater transparency and operational efficiency in electricity distribution. Moreover, industrial growth through the PPP model and private investment will boost economic activity across urban and semi-urban regions, benefiting everyone—from rural farmers to middle-class city dwellers.

Leveraging AI/ML and strategic reforms

To ensure leadership continuity and expertise, the government has proposed a minimum tenure of three years and relevant professional experience for managing directors of PSEs. In addition, initiatives like the creation of an industrial facilitation cell and the deployment of AI/ML-based data analytics are being implemented to improve service delivery and operational decision-making. These steps are not only aimed at improving institutional performance, but also at opening up new employment avenues for the youth, empowering them to build a better future within the state.

The Yogi government’s reform-driven roadmap is a significant step toward transforming Uttar Pradesh into an economic powerhouse. As these changes take root, a new story of prosperity is being written across the state.
