Jalandhar Turns Yogic: Over 21,000 People Participate in Record-Breaking ‘CM di Yogshala’ Event

Jalandhar : The city of Jalandhar witnessed an overwhelming wave of enthusiasm for yoga as more than 21,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at P.A.P. Ground for the state-level ‘CM di Yogshala’ programme, setting a new record for participation in a single yoga event. Though 17,000 yoga mats had been arranged, the turnout exceeded all expectations.

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who led the event, called on the public to make yoga an integral part of daily life, stating that yoga is essential for both physical and mental well-being. Addressing the massive crowd, Dr. Singh said the event reflects the growing awareness of health and fitness across all sections of society and marks a significant step towards building a “healthy and vibrant Punjab.”

Dr. Singh, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, proudly noted that thousands of Punjabis are connecting with the state government through this noble initiative. The ‘CM di Yogshala’ was first launched in Jalandhar two years ago under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and has since expanded statewide, with around 3,200 yoga classes being conducted daily, benefitting nearly 100,000 people.

Trained yoga instructors have been appointed to conduct sessions, ensuring that people across Punjab can access guided and professional yoga training.

The Health Minister appealed to everyone to adopt yoga to stay healthy and fit, especially in today’s fast-paced world filled with stress and health challenges. Emphasizing yoga’s benefits, he called it a “blessing for physical and mental fitness” and highlighted its importance in helping people manage stress, maintain balance, and build inner strength.

Dr. Singh also recalled that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had launched a similar Yoga Shala campaign in Delhi, which gained immense popularity. Inspired by that success, Punjab has now implemented the programme to deliver similar benefits to its people.

He further expressed hope that these yoga sessions, rooted in India’s ancient and proud traditions, would play a pivotal role in improving the physical and mental health of Punjabis.

Importantly, Dr. Singh announced that the ‘CM di Yogshala’ programme would soon be extended to rural areas as well, underlining its contribution to Punjab’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashe de Virudh’. He said yoga is helping addicts rebuild their mental strength to overcome substance abuse.

Earlier in the programme, Mayor Vinneet Dhir welcomed the dignitaries, and industrialist and AAP leader Nitin Kohli offered a vote of thanks. The event was also attended by Principal Prem Kumar, Health Secretary Kumar Rahul, Dr. Sanjeev Sood, Chancellor of Shri Guru Ravidas Ayurveda University, Director Rajinder Singh Rehal, ADGP M.F. Farooqui, ADGP Naresh Arora, and DIG Naveen Singla, among others.
