Piyush Goyal Strengthens India-UK Tech and Trade Ties in London Visit

Union Minister discusses financial infrastructure, AI, digital innovation and FTA implementation with top UK leaders

London : Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level meetings with senior UK government officials and industry leaders during his visit to the United Kingdom, focusing on expanding cooperation in financial infrastructure, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and sustainable trade.

Goyal met with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves to explore opportunities for collaboration in financial services, sustainable finance, and unlocking new avenues of bilateral trade. The discussions aimed at further deepening the robust economic partnership between India and the UK.

The minister also engaged in a meaningful dialogue with Oliver Prill, CEO of Tide, a leading UK-based financial platform for businesses. Highlighting India’s rapid progress in the digital domain, Goyal emphasized shared priorities in strengthening the fintech ecosystem and promoting SME-led economic growth in both countries.

“With India making significant advances in the digital space, we discussed how fintech, digital empowerment, and innovation can drive inclusive growth,” Goyal said in a post on X.

At the Future Frontiers Forum in London, the minister interacted with Sir Ian Blatchford, Director and Chief Executive of the Science Museum Group. He showcased India’s strides in digital infrastructure and AI, and underlined how India’s skilled workforce and cost-effective solutions can benefit global technological advancement.

Speaking at the India Global Forum (IGF) 2025, Goyal reaffirmed India’s commitment to transforming the recently signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) into a milestone economic partnership. He described the FTA, signed in May 2025, as a symbol of the shared vision of two vibrant democracies.

“The FTA reflects a forward-looking, balanced trade approach and is a testament to India’s strategic economic leadership on the global stage,” Goyal noted. The agreement not only boosts bilateral trade but also lays the foundation for enhanced cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.

Accompanied by UK Minister for Trade and Industry Jonathan Reynolds, and with the session moderated by international journalist Mark Barton, Goyal’s visit marks a new chapter in strengthening India-UK economic and technological collaboration.
