Chief Minister Flags Off Olympic Day Run 2025
Aizawl : The Mizoram Olympic Association organized the Olympic Day Run 2025 in Aizawl today. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from sportspersons and citizens alike, who began the run from different locations — Sikulpuikawn, Vaivakawn, and Chanmari — and converged at Lammual.
The concluding ceremony at Lammual was graced by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who officially flagged off the event. He was accompanied by Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister for Sports and Youth Services.
In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of June 23rd as International Olympic Day, celebrated globally to promote the Olympic Movement and encourage participation in sports. He emphasized that sports not only help build a healthier body but also nurture unity, discipline, peace, respect, perseverance, and mutual understanding — essential values for a better society.
He noted that sports transcend barriers of race, language, and religion, uniting people and promoting inclusion. The Chief Minister remarked that the Olympic spirit is not just about physical competition, but also about cultivating a sound mind and a healthy lifestyle.
Mentioning that athletes from countries around the world proudly represent their nations in the Olympics, he stated that Mizoram has so far produced only two Olympians. However, with a growing pool of talented youth capable of competing at the international level, the state government is actively pursuing Vision 2036 with the hope that Mizo athletes will feature in the 2036 Olympic Games.
The Olympic Day Run program was presided over by Pu Robert Romawia Royte, President of the Mizoram Olympic Association. Pu V. Lalzawmliana, General Secretary, presented a report highlighting the recent achievements of Mizoram in various sporting arenas. The event also included a felicitation ceremony for medal winners from the National Games and North East Games.
This year’s Olympic Day theme was:
“Move, Learn, Discover – Together for a Better World.”
