UP govt to start building 2-lane ROB at Devipatan and 4-lane ROB in Kanpur soon
Lucknow : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is poised to witness a significant leap in infrastructure development with the launch of several key bridge projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and easing urban traffic congestion. The Yogi government has greenlit the construction of three major Rail Over Bridges (ROBs) and a Ganga river bridge to benefit millions across Balrampur, Kanpur, and Shuklaganj (Unnao).
On CM Yogi’s directive, a 2-lane rail overbridge will be built near the renowned Devipatan temple in Balrampur, while a 4-lane ROB is set to come up in Kanpur. Additionally, a new four-lane bridge with approach roads will be constructed over the Ganga River to link Kanpur and Shuklaganj more effectively. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited has prepared detailed project reports, targeting completion within two years under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.
As per the action plan a 629-meter, 2-lane ROB on the Tulsipur-Gonda rail section near Devipatan Dham will be constructed at a cost of Rs 57 crore, enhancing pilgrim access and local mobility. In Kanpur, a 4-lane ROB will be built on the Kanpur Central–Rawatpur–Anwarganj rail section for Rs 151 crore, along with a 4-lane flyover on GT Road and a 2-lane flyover near Ghantaghar (Jarib Chowki). A four-lane Ganga river bridge with approach roads will be constructed 50 meters upstream of the old Kanpur-Shuklaganj bridge at a cost of over Rs 163 crore, significantly reducing traffic congestion between the two cities.
Together, these projects will be completed at an estimated cost of over Rs 372 crore, out of which Kanpur-specific works will account for Rs 315 crore. They will not only improve road and rail connectivity, but also address longstanding urban mobility challenges, ensuring smoother commutes and preparing infrastructure for future demands.
These efforts reaffirm the Yogi government’s commitment to modern infrastructure and regional development, bridging gaps—both literal and figurative—across the state of Uttar Pradesh.
