Semiconductors to Power the Next Phase of Chhattisgarh’s Economy

Chhattisgarh sets its sights on becoming India’s emerging semiconductor hub

Raipur : Chhattisgarh is playing a significant role in realising the vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The foundation stone for the state’s first semiconductor unit, with an investment of ₹1,100 crore, has already been laid at Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. The launch of this project by Polymatech Electronics Private Limited, one of India’s premier semiconductor manufacturing companies, marks a new milestone in the state’s industrial development.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh has created a favourable investment climate through its new industrial policy and ease of doing business reforms. It is due to these progressive steps that Polymatech expressed its intent to invest in Chhattisgarh during an investment summit in Delhi, and within just three months, the ground-breaking ceremony was completed—highlighting the success of the state’s investor-friendly approach.

The establishment of a semiconductor plant in Chhattisgarh is expected to generate large-scale chip production while creating ample employment opportunities for youth with technical education. The state government is not just focusing on chip manufacturing but is working on building a complete semiconductor ecosystem—from chip design to manufacturing and packaging.

In addition, the government is promoting advanced technology sectors like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data centres, which will further encourage technical education and generate new avenues for employment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advocated for India’s active role in the global semiconductor supply chain, stating that at least one chip used in global computers should be made in India. In line with this vision, the Semiconductor Mission was launched to secure a 10% share in the global semiconductor market by 2030.

To understand the importance of semiconductors in simple terms—just as petrol is the fuel for vehicles, semiconductors are the brain and operating system of modern electronic devices. They are vital components in mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, defence equipment, artificial intelligence applications, quantum computing, drones, and smart devices.

A few months ago, the Chhattisgarh government launched its new industrial policy, which has already attracted investment proposals worth ₹5.5 lakh crore through investor summits held in major cities. To further encourage investors, the state is offering special grants and various incentives. Beyond semiconductors, Chhattisgarh is also actively promoting investment in AI and IT sectors.

India’s first AI Data Centre Park is being developed in Nava Raipur, positioning Chhattisgarh as an emerging technology hub in the country.

In conclusion, with strategic vision, investor confidence, and technological ambition, Chhattisgarh is poised to become a driving force in India’s semiconductor revolution—fueling not only the state’s economy but also contributing meaningfully to the nation’s goal of technological self-reliance.
