Carlos Alcaraz Ruled Out of French Open 2026 Due to Wrist Injury

New Delhi, April 2026 : World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has been forced to withdraw from the French Open 2026 due to a wrist injury, dealing a major blow to his hopes of securing a third consecutive title at Roland Garros.

The 22-year-old Spaniard sustained the injury during his opening-round match against Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open. Although he initially attempted to continue, the discomfort worsened, leading to his withdrawal from the tournament. Subsequent medical evaluations have now confirmed that he will also miss the Italian Open in Rome and the French Open.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Alcaraz expressed disappointment but emphasised the importance of recovery. “After the test results we got today, we have decided that the safest choice is to be careful and not participate in Rome or Roland Garros, while we evaluate the situation to figure out when I can get back on the court,” he said. “This is a tough time for me, but I believe we will come back stronger.”

Alcaraz had already pulled out of the Madrid Open earlier this month, raising concerns about his fitness during the crucial clay-court season. His absence from Roland Garros is particularly significant given his recent dominance on the surface.

A seven-time Grand Slam champion, Alcaraz is the defending champion in Paris, having lifted the title in both 2024 and 2025. His 2025 triumph remains one of the most memorable finals in recent history, where he staged a dramatic comeback against Jannik Sinner, saving three championship points to secure victory.

Earlier this year, Alcaraz further cemented his place among tennis greats by winning the Australian Open, becoming the youngest player to achieve a career Grand Slam. Despite his recent injury setback, he has enjoyed a strong 2026 season so far, compiling an impressive 22-3 win-loss record and clinching a title in Doha.

However, his loss to Sinner in the Monte Carlo Masters final earlier this month saw him relinquish the top spot in the world rankings, adding to a challenging period in his campaign.

With the clay season now disrupted, Alcaraz’s immediate focus will be on rehabilitation and regaining full fitness. His team is expected to monitor his recovery closely before confirming a return timeline.

While his absence leaves a significant void at Roland Garros, fans and analysts alike remain confident that the young Spaniard will bounce back strongly and continue to shape the future of men’s tennis.
