CM Dhami Orders Strong Mechanism to Prevent Encroachment on Government Land

Strict action to be taken along rivers like Ganga, Kalyani, and Kosi

To curb illegal occupation of government land, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the formation of a robust mechanism. Chairing a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence, he emphasized that a comprehensive action plan must be developed to prevent encroachments and illegal land sales.

The Chief Minister reviewed efforts to remove unauthorized encroachments from government land and recalled that instructions had already been issued for preparing a district-wise action plan. He stressed that strict and effective enforcement must now take place at the district level.

Key Directives by the Chief Minister:

  • Constitute joint teams at the district level comprising officials from the Irrigation, Public Works (PWD), Forest, and Revenue Departments to carry out eviction drives.
  • Appoint a nodal officer at the state level to oversee encroachment cases specifically in the plains regions.
  • Prioritize removal of encroachments along rivers, especially:
    • The Ganga in Haridwar,
    • The Kalyani River in Rudrapur,
    • The Kosi and other rivers in Nainital district.
  • Take strict legal action against those who attempt to illegally occupy government land.
  • Implement strong deterrents against the creation of fake land ownership documents and forged records.

The CM also instructed Additional Director General of Police A.P. Anshuman to tighten verification norms for outsiders entering or settling in the state. ADG Anshuman informed the meeting that verification is now being conducted across 18 different parameters, with data being compiled at the state level for monitoring.
