Maharashtra Tourists Stranded in Uttarakhand Rescued with Timely Help

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Coordinates with Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami for Swift Action

NDRF teams mobilized promptly to evacuate tourists to safety

Mumbai : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde extended a helping hand to Maharashtra tourists stranded in Uttarakhand due to extreme weather conditions. Shinde personally spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone and requested urgent assistance. Responding swiftly, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed rescue teams, who promptly relocated the stranded tourists to safer locations.

For the past several days, Uttarakhand has been experiencing relentless rainfall, resembling a cloudburst in some regions, causing severe flooding in rivers and landslides that have blocked roads. In Jankichatti village near Yamunotri Dham, around 150 tourists from Maharashtra had been stranded since June 28, unable to return due to landslides washing away roads on their return route. Officials had estimated that it might take another eight days to restore normalcy.

The stranded tourists had appealed to the Maharashtra government to send help and evacuate them to safety. Responding immediately, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde took initiative and contacted the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office early this morning, requesting support for the tourists. He also followed up with a direct call to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, asking him to ensure aid reached the affected people from Maharashtra.

Following this, NDRF teams were dispatched without delay. The rescue personnel reached Jankichatti and successfully evacuated the tourists to a safe location.

After their rescue, several tourists personally called Deputy CM Shinde to express their heartfelt gratitude. They said that once they were able to speak with him, the rescue efforts accelerated, and within hours, they were brought to safety. They thanked Deputy CM Shinde and the Maharashtra government for responding quickly and sending timely help that ensured their well-being.
