“Tragedy in Jiribam: CRPF Trooper Killed, Two Police Injured in Militant Ambush”
Imphal : Kuki militants ambushed a combined team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur police in Jiribam district on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of one CRPF trooper and injuries to two police personnel. The ambush followed an attack on Mongbung Meetei village from neighboring Kuki villages the previous night. During the intense half-hour gunfight, CRPF trooper Ajay Kumar Jha was killed, and two state police officers were injured and later referred to Silchar Medical College for treatment.
Simultaneously, on the night between Saturday and Sunday, Kuki militants set fire to two houses and a school in Babukhal and another house in Goakhal Karong in Jiribam district. The violence in these areas has created a tense atmosphere, with recent clashes and ongoing threats destabilizing the region. The joint patrol of Jiribam district police, commando units, and CRPF was ambushed around 9:30 am at Mongbung tri-junction, leading to an exchange of heavy gunfire.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the incident, extending condolences to the family of the deceased CRPF trooper and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured personnel. The violence in Jiribam is part of ongoing unrest in the border district, with both Kuki and Meetei communities suffering from attacks and retaliations, leading to significant displacement and loss of property. The conflict has forced many residents to seek shelter in relief camps or with relatives in safer areas.
