Chemotherapy Administered to Child Cancer Patient at Nawapara UCHC: A New Milestone in Chhattisgarh’s Healthcare
Raipur : Taking a significant step towards the expansion of healthcare services envisioned by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC) in Nawapara, Ambikapur district, has achieved a historic milestone in cancer treatment. On Friday, a young child suffering from neuroblastoma successfully received the fourth cycle of chemotherapy at Nawapara UCHC. This marks the first time a pediatric cancer patient has been administered chemotherapy at this facility, signaling a transformative leap in the accessibility and quality of healthcare in the state.
Administering chemotherapy to children at community health centres has long been considered rare, often forcing families to travel long distances to district hospitals or metropolitan cities for treatment. Challenging this norm, Nawapara UCHC has set a new benchmark by ensuring that high-quality cancer care is now available at the local level. The initiative aims to ease the financial and emotional burden on families by minimizing the need for travel while ensuring timely, efficient treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, the medical officer and oncologist involved emphasized, “This is not just treatment—it’s the beginning of hope.” Previously, children had to be referred to medical colleges or large hospitals for chemotherapy, but now this essential service is available right here in Nawapara. This advancement is the result of the team’s collective effort and spirit of service.
The entire medical team—including doctors, staff nurses, technicians, and pharmacists—was thanked for their dedication. It was also announced that future efforts will aim to expand treatment for other cancer patients at this facility. The goal is to develop Nawapara UCHC into a model cancer treatment center—an essential part of CM Vishnu Deo Sai’s vision to strengthen health infrastructure across Chhattisgarh.
This success was made possible under the guidance of the district collector, the unwavering support for cancer patients, the tireless efforts of public representatives, the commitment of the Chief Medical and Health Officer to ensure the availability of medicines, and the dedicated service of Dr. Sheila Netam, the center’s in-charge, along with the entire staff of Nawapara.
This landmark development not only boosts the morale of healthcare workers at Nawapara UCHC but also brings renewed hope for patients battling cancer and other serious illnesses under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. It reflects the state government’s strong commitment to delivering accessible and affordable healthcare to every citizen, right down to the last mile.
