Union Science & Technology Minister Gifts Dholpur a Science Centre — A New Chapter in Scientific Thinking for Students, Says Dr. Jitendra Singh
Dholpur, a land enriched with historical heritage and natural diversity, has now embarked on a new journey of science and innovation. On Tuesday, Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the newly established Dholpur Science Centre, located in the Information Centre at the District Public Relations Office premises, in collaboration with the National Institute of Defence Science.
During the event, the Union Minister toured the centre and engaged with the students present. He praised the various scientific experiments and models presented by the students and encouraged them to understand scientific principles in simple terms and relate them to daily life. Dr. Singh stated that the centre would become a milestone in developing scientific temper and promoting hands-on science education among students.
As part of the programme, Dr. Singh also participated in the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign by planting a sapling in the Collectorate Park, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation.
Later, addressing a gathering at the Town Hall, the Minister emphasized that this is the era of science and innovation. The establishment of science centres in aspirational districts reflects the Central Government’s vision to expand scientific consciousness to remote and underdeveloped regions. He noted that India is now playing a leading role in global scientific innovation—whether it’s reaching the Moon’s south pole through the Chandrayaan-3 mission or solving rural issues through a blend of modern technology and ancient knowledge systems, India has made a strong global impact in science.
During the event, students interacted with the Minister, expressing their interest in science, innovation, and future opportunities. They welcomed the Science Centre as highly beneficial and said it would help them move beyond textbook learning to hands-on experimentation and real-world problem-solving. Several girl students also suggested that similar science centres be set up in other districts of the state.
District In-Charge Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham stated that when children gain scientific knowledge, it doesn’t stay limited to books—it influences their life decisions. He said the Science Centre would help the youth adapt to the demands of the technological and digital era.
Dr. Debashish Mohanty, Director of the National Institute of Defence Science, Dr. Rajesh H. Gokhale, Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, and Dr. Vijay Shankar Sharma, Director of the National Science Centre, New Delhi, shared updates on new experiments and breakthroughs in the fields of science and biotechnology.
District Collector Shrinidhi B.T. extended his gratitude to all dignitaries and scientists, stating that the centre is not just a structure, but a launchpad for scientific consciousness in Dholpur. He remarked that Dholpur would no longer be known only for its ravines—it would soon be recognized for its natural tourism, scientific outlook, and sustainable development.
The event was also attended by SP Sumit Meharda, Zila Parishad CEO A.N. Somanath, former MLAs Sukh Ram Koli and Girraj Singh Malinga, Rani Silautia, Additional District Collector Hariram Meena, Rajveer Singh Rajawat, Indu Jatav, Dr. Shivcharan Kushwaha, Neerja Sharma, along with other administrative officers, public representatives, teachers, students, and notable citizens.
