Visit of Child Protection Commission Chairperson Dr. Varnika Sharma to Bemetara
A Blessing for Three Children; SIT Formed to Trace Missing Girl
Raipur : The one-day visit of Dr. Varnika Sharma, Chairperson of the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, to Bemetara was not just limited to inspections and discussions—it became a beacon of hope and rights for several children and their families.
During her visit, three children suffering from a rare and incurable skin disease received their long-overdue birth certificates. These children had previously been denied access to government welfare schemes due to a lack of official documentation and social neglect.
Dr. Sharma had received information about the three children from Kesdberi village who were facing social discrimination and exclusion from schemes due to their condition and lack of documentation. Moved by their plight, she personally visited the village, sat on the ground with the children to understand their situation, and instructed the authorities to issue their birth certificates within three days. Thanks to swift action by officials, the certificates were issued within the stipulated time.
She also directed that the children receive treatment at AIIMS Raipur and asked the Child Welfare Committee to keep them under regular monitoring. She further assured that the commission would remain accessible for any further support.
During the same visit, a mother shared the painful story of her daughter who had been missing for the past six months. Recognizing the seriousness of the case, Dr. Sharma immediately ordered an FIR to be filed and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be formed. The police acted swiftly, and the very next day an SIT was constituted and dispatched to another state to trace the missing child.
