Bank Sakhi: Bringing Banking Services to Every Village
Raipur : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the National Rural Livelihood Mission’s Bihan Yojana is playing a crucial role in economically empowering rural women. As part of this initiative, Mrs. Zeenat Parveen, a resident of Charai Dadar village in Duldula development block of Jashpur district, has been working as a Bank Sakhi since 2019.
Mrs. Zeenat Parveen shares that before joining the scheme, she was a regular homemaker. When she got the opportunity to serve as a Bank Sakhi under the State Rural Livelihood Mission of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, she embraced the role with dedication and sincerity. Today, she provides essential banking services from the Chhattisgarh Rajya Gramin Bank to her village and surrounding rural areas.
She assists villagers with account opening, cash deposits and withdrawals, Aadhaar linking, social security pension disbursements, and other banking-related services. Her monthly banking transactions now range between ₹35 to ₹40 lakh, from which she earns a good amount of commission regularly. This service has not only become a source of employment for her but also a means of self-reliance and social recognition.
Mrs. Parveen proudly states that this income has enabled her to fulfill several personal dreams. In 2022, she bought a scooter, which now helps her travel easily across rural areas to provide services. She says that becoming a Bank Sakhi has brought positive changes in her life, and she is now also contributing significantly to her family’s financial responsibilities.
