CM Nayab Singh Saini Targets Congress Over Development, Farmers’ Welfare and Governance Failures
Chandigarh – Haryana Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday took a jibe at the Congress, stating that if its leaders cannot see the holistic development taking place across the state, they ‘should consider getting their eyesight tested. He reminded them of the times during their own government when citizens had to make rounds of government offices to avail benefits of schemes.
Addressing a press conference in Kaithal, the Chief Minister said that the previous Congress regime was marked with red tape, favouritism in job distribution, and citizens running from office to office. In contrast, under the leadership of Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, the double-engine government in Haryana has ensured transparent, efficient delivery of welfare schemes at the grassroots level, said Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
He said that through innovative initiatives like the Parivar Pehchan Patra (Family ID), schemes are now directly accessible to citizens. Today, over 76 lakh families in the state are receiving the benefits of more than 500 welfare schemes right at their doorstep.
He added that during the Congress regime, elderly citizens had to make rounds of the offices to get their pensions approved, and even then, it often took up to two years to receive the benefit. In contrast, the present government has provided significant relief to the elderly by proactively granting pensions through the Family ID system. While only 17 lakh elderly people were receiving pensions during the Congress era, today 36 lakh beneficiaries are being provided a monthly social security pension of Rs. 3,000.
The Chief Minister said that despite grandstanding on farmer issues, the Congress government failed to introduce any substantial policy measures for agricultural growth or farmer security. It is evident that concern for farmers does not exist in the Congress party’s DNA. Our government, on the other hand, has ensured 100 percent procurement of crops at MSP and transferred Rs. 6,563 crore to 20 lakh farmers under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, he stated.
He also contrasted compensation support, noting that Congress disbursed only Rs. 1,155 crore in 10 years for crop loss, whereas the BJP-led government has paid over Rs. 15,000 crore in the last decade.
*Merit-based Jobs Replacing Parchi Kharci Culture*
Responding to a controversial remark by a Congress leader allegedly linking jobs with bribes, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said, perhaps that leader is recalling their own tenure. Today, under our government, jobs are awarded purely on merit. He recalled that the judiciary once questioned the Congress system, likening it to a personal business venture.
*Major Expansion in Healthcare and Medical Education*
The Chief Minister also shared the transformative reforms in healthcare. He said that under the Chirayu–Ayushman Bharat scheme, 1.5 crore beneficiaries have been enrolled and over 20 lakh patients have received free treatment worth Rs. 2,761 crore,” he said.
He further emphasized the government’s push for medical education. Haryana now has 15 operational medical colleges, 9 of which were opened during our tenure. Nine more are in the pipeline. MBBS seats have tripled from 700 to 2,185, with a target of 3,485 in the coming years, said the Chief Minister.
*Improved access to Drinking Water and Power Supply*
On the development front, the Chief Minister recalled the hardships women faced in rural areas under previous governments. During Congress rule, women walked kilometers for drinking water. Today, under the Har Ghar Nal Se Jal scheme, 30 lakh rural households receive clean tap water at home, he said.
He also took aim at Congress promises of uninterrupted power supply. Their lofty claims resulted in chronic power cuts. In comparison, our Mhara Gaon Jagmag Gaon initiative now provides 24×7 electricity to over 5,800 villages, he said.
*Boost to Girls’ Education*
Highlighting the government’s focus on girls’ education, the Chief Minister said that the present state government has opened colleges every 20 km to reduce travel burden on female students. Of the 79 new colleges established in the state, 30 are exclusively for girls.
*Congress lacks policy, intent and leadership*
The Chief Minister asserted that Congress lacks not just a clear policy agenda, but also the intent and leadership to implement change. Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, Haryana is witnessing triple the pace of development compared to previous regimes, he said.
