Submit a Detailed Proposal Immediately for the Improvement of Saline Soils in Shirol Taluka – Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Mumbai : It is essential to improve the quality of saline soils in Shirol Taluka and make them suitable for cultivation. Since drainage technology is proving effective for the improvement of saline soils, a necessary proposal for this should be prepared and promptly sent for government approval. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar assured that the required funds will be provided along with administrative approval for this plan.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at the Mantralaya for the implementation of the proposed scheme to improve the saline and marshy areas in Shirol Taluka, Kolhapur district. The meeting was attended by MLA Rajendra Patil-Yedravkar, Planning Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajgopal Deora, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary O.P. Gupta, Secretary of Command Area Development Dr. Sanjay Belsare, Kolhapur District Collector Amol Yedge (via video conferencing), and Superintendent Engineer and Director of the Directorate of Irrigation Research and Development Pune, Vaishali Narkar, among others.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the work of improving saline land is beneficial to the public and in the interest of farmers. Since this work will bring barren land under cultivation, it will certainly benefit the farmers. Therefore, while presenting the proposal for improving saline land in Shirol Taluka, it should be comprehensive. The proposal should include consent letters showing that the concerned farmers will bear 10% of the cost and the related cooperative sugar factory will also bear 10% of the cost.
In this meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reviewed the rainfall, river water levels, and water storage in dams in Kolhapur district with the District Collector of Kolhapur.
