FSSAI CEO Reviews Rajasthan’s Food Safety Measures, Lauds Anti-Adulteration Efforts

Jaipur: The Central CEO of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Mr. G. Kamala Vardhan, appreciated the steps taken by Rajasthan to ensure food safety and prevent adulteration. He praised the increased public awareness resulting from ongoing anti-adulteration campaigns and emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and swift resolution of pending cases.

While reviewing the state’s food safety measures at the OTS auditorium, Mr. Vardhan instructed officials to expedite action on pending adulteration cases and enforce strict compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act. He also reviewed manpower availability and the number of unresolved cases with district administrators, chief medical and health officers, and food safety officers.

Mr. Vardhan highlighted the importance of regularly sampling daily food items like ghee, milk, paneer, and spices. He stressed that vacant food safety officer posts should be filled promptly.

During the meeting, FSSAI’s Regulatory Compliance Division Director Mr. Rakesh Kumar and Executive Director Mr. Satyen Kumar Panda also discussed strategies for strict implementation of the Act. Mr. Rakesh Kumar noted that decisions on sampled cases should be made within 90 days as per the Act.

Food Safety Commissioner Mr. H. Guite provided detailed information on various ongoing food safety campaigns in Rajasthan. He urged food safety officers to exercise extra caution during the monsoon season. He also announced that an AI-based app is being developed to offer real-time monitoring of food safety actions and provide vital information to the public.

Mr. Guite reported that between April 2024 and March 2025, 18,213 samples were collected in Rajasthan. Of these, 863 were found unsafe, 3,734 were substandard, and 131 were misbranded. Out of the total, 17,615 samples have already been analyzed and necessary actions taken, while the remaining 598 pending cases are to be resolved within district-wise deadlines.

He also presented progress reports and campaign outcomes related to food safety measures during festivals and special occasions.

Other officials present at the review meeting included IEC Director Mr. Shaheen Ali Khan, Additional Food Safety Commissioner Mr. Pankaj Ojha, Joint Commissioner Dr. Vijay Prakash Sharma, and other concerned officers.
