CM Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate national seminar on tribal icon Birsa Munda in Varanasi on Friday, July 18
Varanasi : A national seminar on Birsa Munda’s legacy, tribal empowerment, and his role in the national movement will be held at Vasant Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Varanasi, on July 18–19. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the event on Friday, July 18. The two-day seminar is being organised jointly by Vasant Mahila Mahavidyalaya and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
The seminar aims to foster research, dialogue, and critical discourse around the life and contributions of tribal icon Birsa Munda. More than 100 research papers will be presented during the event, with participation from distinguished scholars, researchers, educators, and students from across the country. Padma Shri Ashok Bhagat will deliver the keynote address, while the seminar will be presided over by Principal Dr. Alka Singh.
Seminar convener Prof. Anjana Singh stated that the event aims to explore the multifaceted legacy of Birsa Munda, a visionary leader who championed the rights of tribal communities, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The seminar will delve into his historical significance, assess his relevance in contemporary times, and discuss pathways to advance his ideals.
The two-day conference will offer a platform to revisit and reinterpret Birsa Munda’s life, struggles, and lasting impact on tribal consciousness and socio-political movements. Discussions will encompass historical, sociological, anthropological, and political perspectives, with a focus on heritage, identity, and resistance.
Providing further details, Dr. Samvedna Singh shared that the seminar will include seven technical sessions spread across two days. These sessions will enable in-depth academic dialogue on the enduring influence of Birsa Munda’s movement.
