Complete Proposed Works at Shirdi Airport Before Upcoming Kumbh Mela – CM Devendra FadnavisReview Meeting Held on Shirdi and Purandar Airports

Mumbai : Shirdi Airport will play a vital role during the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, making it crucial to complete renovation and expansion works at the earliest, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed in a review meeting held today.

A review of Shirdi and Purandar airport projects was conducted under the chairmanship of CM Fadnavis at Vidhan Bhavan. Present at the meeting were Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Additional Chief Secretary of the Transport Department Sanjay Sethi, MIDC CEO P. Velarasu, Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, District Collectors Jitendra Dudi and Dr. Pankaj Ashiya, Vice-Chairperson & MD of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Swati Pandey, and Chief Financial Officer Anisha Godani, among others.

CM Fadnavis emphasized the urgent completion of proposed works at Shirdi Airport, including the new ATC building, integrated cargo terminal, and new passenger terminal building, all of which must be finished before the start of the Kumbh Mela. He instructed that additional manpower be deployed if necessary and that procurement and structural design work be completed within the coming week.

He added that Shirdi Airport, being close to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports, can be used for parking smaller aircraft. Hence, facilities should be developed accordingly, and if required, more land should be acquired to support future expansion.

Regarding Purandar Airport, CM Fadnavis stated that the survey has been completed, and the Pune District Collector should immediately begin the land acquisition process, enabling project work to start quickly. Once operational, this airport will significantly strengthen Maharashtra’s air connectivity network.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar stressed the need for swift action to begin construction at Purandar Airport and to ensure that the infrastructure supports large aircraft landings and includes hangar facilities.

MADC Vice-Chairperson Swati Pandey presented updates on both Shirdi and Purandar airports. Representatives from the appointed consultancy and contractor firms for Shirdi Airport also shared project details.
