Emphasis on Modernization of Police Department for Speedy Justice – Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Nagpur : For years, justice under the laws imposed by the British was delayed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have shown the courage to change these outdated laws, asserting that justice can only reach the common people if these laws are updated. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that due to these changes and the addition of state-of-the-art technology to the Home Department, the public will no longer have to wait for justice.
Fadnavis was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Command and Control Center’ established at Civil Lines, in collaboration with Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited and Nagpur Police, aimed at curbing crime. During the ceremony, approximately ₹5 crore 51 lakh 81 thousand seized by the Nagpur City Police in various crimes were returned to the concerned persons after completing the judicial process. These items were seized in various crimes between the years 2021 and 2024. Present at the event were MLA Krishna Khopde, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Commissioner of Police Dr. Rabindra Kumar Singal, Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, Chief Executive Officer of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited Anchal Goyal, Joint Commissioner of Police Ashwati Dorje, and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarvashree Pramod Shewale, Sanjay Patil, and other dignitaries.
Fadnavis highlighted that modernization in the police department and the effective use of artificial intelligence have made it easier to curb crime. Around 1200 km of optic fiber cables have been used to integrate approximately 5800 cameras into the new command and control center across Nagpur metropolis. Additionally, around 2200 cameras in malls, showrooms, railway stations, and other public places have been integrated. He emphasized that criminals cannot escape detection, as any one camera can now identify them. This technology allows for easy recognition of criminals’ faces and voices through artificial intelligence.
However, Fadnavis cautioned that while modernization has made it easier to curb crime, citizens must also protect themselves from cybercrime by being vigilant and not falling prey to temptations or financial greed. He warned that shortcuts to obtain money can lead to trouble.
Fadnavis stressed the importance of limiting the number of years that items seized from criminals in various crimes can be stored at police stations. New changes in the law are crucial for promptly returning stolen valuables to their rightful owners. He congratulated the police department for their efforts and launched the Simba app during the event. Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis also felicitated Everest Veer Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nannaware.
The program was introduced by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal, with a vote of thanks given by Commissioner of Police Ashwati Dorje. The event was conducted by Police Inspector Isarkar.
