West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari Assures Action After Hearing Fraud Complaints at ‘Janatar Darbar’

Kolkata, May 2026 : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday assured personal intervention after hearing the grievances of an elderly couple who alleged they were cheated by recently arrested land mafia-promoters Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Papu, and Joy Kamdar.

The assurance came during the Chief Minister’s pre-announced ‘Janatar Darbar’ (People’s Court) programme, where he interacted directly with citizens and listened to complaints related to public grievances and administrative issues.

Among those who attended the session were senior citizens Probir Mukhopadhyay and his wife, residents of the Chief Minister’s Bhabanipur constituency. The couple narrated how they were allegedly cheated in a real estate promotion deal involving their ancestral property.

According to Mukhopadhyay, he had handed over his ancestral land to Biswajit Poddar and Joy Kamdar for development under a real estate agreement. However, after completion of the project, the developers allegedly failed to provide the residential flat promised to him in the agreement.

The elderly man further told the Chief Minister that because the promised flat was never handed over, he and his wife were forced to live in rented accommodation despite giving up their property for the project.

Chief Minister Adhikari listened carefully to the couple’s complaint and assured them that he would personally look into the matter and work towards an early resolution.

The assurance appeared to bring relief to Mukhopadhyay, who is over 80 years old. Speaking to media persons after meeting the Chief Minister, he said he felt “much more relaxed” after receiving a direct assurance from the state’s top leadership.

The ‘Janatar Darbare’ session also saw participation from a group of “untainted teachers” who lost their jobs following court orders linked to the multi-crore cash-for-school jobs recruitment case in West Bengal.

The affected teachers appealed to the Chief Minister for a solution, arguing that they had lost their employment despite not being involved in any wrongdoing. They urged the government to consider measures that would help them regain their jobs.

Responding to their concerns, Chief Minister Adhikari assured the group that their issue would be examined seriously and sympathetically. He said the government would make every possible effort to find a practical and fair solution to their situation.

The public grievance programme was attended by several senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, including Locket Chatterjee and Sashi Agnihotri, who accompanied the Chief Minister during the interactions.

The ‘Janatar Darbare’ initiative has been projected as a direct outreach platform aimed at addressing public grievances and strengthening communication between the government and citizens.
