US Secretary Marco Rubio Visits Taj Mahal and Jaipur’s Amber Fort During India Tour
Agra, May 2026 : US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by his wife Jeanette Rubio, visited the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra and the historic Amber Fort in Jaipur on Monday as part of his ongoing four-day visit to India.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also accompanied the couple during their visits to the two major heritage sites, which are among India’s most prominent tourist attractions.
Sharing photographs from the visit, Ambassador Gor praised India’s cultural heritage and architectural excellence. In a post on social media, he wrote, “Wonderful to be back at the iconic Taj Mahal with Secretary Rubio, Jeanette Rubio and Robert Gabriel. A breathtaking symbol of India’s extraordinary heritage and craftsmanship.”
The visit to the Taj Mahal highlighted the cultural aspect of Rubio’s India tour, which is primarily focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and the United States in strategic sectors such as trade, defence, energy, and geopolitical affairs.
The Taj Mahal continues to remain a major attraction for visiting world leaders and dignitaries. Last year, US Vice President J.D. Vance, along with his wife and children, had also visited the monument during his official trip to India.
Following the Agra visit, Rubio and his wife travelled to Jaipur, marking the US Secretary of State’s first official visit to the Rajasthan capital. Authorities in Jaipur made extensive preparations for the high-profile visit, especially at the Amber Fort, where a ceremonial welcome was planned.
Preparations at Jaleb Chowk inside the historic Amber Fort complex began early in the morning. Folk artists and traditional cultural troupes were assembled to present Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage through music and dance performances as part of the reception ceremony.
Given the significance of the visit, security arrangements across Jaipur were significantly tightened. The district administration, police, and multiple security agencies remained on high alert throughout the day.
Officials conducted inspections of travel routes, hotels, event venues, and accommodation facilities connected to Rubio’s itinerary. Security personnel also maintained close surveillance at tourist locations and areas designated for VVIP movement.
Authorities implemented a detailed traffic and crowd management plan to ensure smooth movement of the visiting delegation and to minimise inconvenience to the public.
Civic agencies also intensified cleanliness drives, beautification work, and lighting arrangements at major tourist destinations, particularly around Amber Palace, ahead of the visit.
Rubio’s India visit, which began on May 23 and concludes on May 26, includes engagements in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi. The trip is being viewed as an important diplomatic outreach aimed at deepening India-US strategic ties amid evolving global geopolitical developments.
