During the course of interaction with the participating runners, and diligently ascertaining the Shovelling white steam, which metaphorically indemnifies the quality of the event management, emphasising on Hydration Points; Nutritional & Medical Support.
While, fitness is of paramount importance for the Runners participating in such a long distance haul; runners are always at risk of developing physical injuries both in terms of ‘bruises & cuts’ and ‘sudden nutritional deficiency’. Although Nutritional Deficiencies are manifestations of long term inadequate intake or absorptions of essential nutrients, however spiking a health disorder amidst a Marathon can never be ignored of.
Some of the most common nutritional deficiencies are: Wasting; Rashes; Diarrhea; Onset of joint pains & swellings; Muscle Cramps; while speaking out from their hearts each and all participants have reaffirmed the Flawless Medical Management of the Mumbai Ultra Marathon, by medical professionals along with sports specialist all along the Marathon Track.
ABHISHEK SABNIS – Ultra Marathoner:
Although Abhishek’s journey embracing running began unanticipated’ in 2015; when his cousin brother, who is also a runner, had registered his name forcefully for the noble cause pertinent to the Satara Hill Half Marathon, he had expressed his reluctancy in participation. But he still participated because of his insistence. Moreover, being pessimistic in completing 21kilometres, he had decided to quit after the first few kilometres. As narrated to Maverick News, he was deeply influenced by the electrifying atmosphere and support by the crowd that had ended up completing his first half marathon. His mental block was eventually transformed into optimism. “I was deeply moved by this experience and I decided to continue this journey in order to take better care of my mental and physical health”.

What is understood to be a feat, Abhishek reaffirmed, “Till date, I have completed 30 half marathons, 15 full marathons and 07 ultra-marathons including two Comrades – a commendable ultra-marathons event in the world, taking place in South Africa, in which the participant is supposed to cover the distance of 87 to 90 kilometres within a span of 12 hours”.
The coveted TATA – Mumbai Ultra Marathon was introduced by his same cousin about 06 – 07 years ago, but it was again due to certain preoccupations that had hindered Abhishek’s participation. However, the passion deep down in the core of the heart enabled him to break open the shackles last year, when he decided to participate in the relay event with my running mates.
Upon enquiring about, what attracts him the most, he pondered for a while to answer, “the Mumbai Ultra is flawlessly organised providing a fantastic experience to all participants. The organisers have done excellent work by thoroughly planning out stations to provide nutrition, hydration and medical support, along with other provisions for the runners. Events like these are like a Runners’ Meet-up, strengthening the bond between the runners with different backgrounds and motives. This year I have registered my name for the 12 hours run”.
“My message to all will be that, no matter how busy or tired you are, try to take some time out of your schedule to do something that you love, which will benefit your physical and mental well-being. Like I firmly believe, running is 10% physical and 90% mental. So, break that mental obstacle and try to do better each day than what you did before. All the best on your journey!”
PINKI MISTRY- Recreational Marathoner:
A ‘family care giver’ by priviledge, Pinki had begun running since 2019, which initially started with morning walks – smaller to lengthier, at the mariner’s drive but what had inspired her is, “watching several women runners running”, to give a try! Started enjoying it, more than for fitness, it became like my time and therapy”

Gradually over a period of time she kept increasing the distance and accomplished her 1st. Full Marathon at the TATA MUMBAI MARATHON, held earlier in January, 2025. “I have participated in the team relay wherein 3 team members run 4 hours each. What an experience it was!!! It’s a very well organised event, providing a moral boost for the forthcoming MUMBAI ULTRA., with excellent hydration, good nutrition post event, and also for runners running for 12 hours. The medical support was also fantastic. The traffic was also very well managed by the organisers. There were photographers too who clicked super pics. It’s like a runners meet, wonderful experience to participate in such an event!!!”
In 2024, she came to know about the MUMBAI ULTRA event which is being held on every 15th August. She is already preparing for the same, with vigour & enthusiasm.
