State Government Committed to Modern Facilities for Fisherfolk – Ports and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane
Mumbai : The Maharashtra state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are fully committed to ensuring the welfare of fisherfolk and providing them with modern amenities, said Fisheries Development Minister Shri Nitesh Rane.
He was speaking during a meeting held at the BMC headquarters with representatives from various fisherfolk organizations. Present at the meeting were BMC Commissioner and Administrator Shri Bhushan Gagrani, Assistant Commissioner (Markets) Shri Manish Valanju, Balwantrao Pawar from the Mumbai Fresh Fish Dealers’ Association, Devendra Tandel from the Maharashtra Machhimar Kruti Samiti, representatives from other organizations, and senior officials.
Minister Rane emphasized that international-standard facilities are being developed for fisherfolk at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market in Mumbai. He assured that constructive discussions will be held with fisherfolk associations regarding the suggestions received about the market’s infrastructure, and necessary measures will be implemented accordingly. He added that the BMC administration is making continuous efforts to establish a high-quality fish market at the site and urged the organizations not to resort to protest marches.
BMC Commissioner Shri Bhushan Gagrani stated that the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Market is being upgraded with essential infrastructure for fish sales, including parking spaces, elevators, drainage systems, and ramps, ensuring the market aligns with international standards. He also clarified that appropriate decisions will be taken after considering the various demands of the fisherfolk associations.
