CM Shri Bhupendra Patel Lays Foundation Stone for 17 Sites of Shramik Basera Yojana.

Under Shramik Basera Yojana, construction workers will get affordable and convenient temporary accommodation at a nominal rate of ₹5 per person.

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has pledged to improve the living standards of unorganized sector workers, including construction workers, by providing essential support such as food, healthcare, housing, and financial assistance. CM emphasized that ensuring the comprehensive welfare of grassroots workers, who tirelessly contribute to the country’s development and progress, is the government’s responsibility.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel was addressing the Foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of Shramik Baseras in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot, an initiative by the State Government’s Labor, Skill Development, and Employment Department. Once completed, these Shramik Baseras will benefit over 15,000 construction workers. Over the next three years, the government plans to construct convenient temporary accommodations (Shramik Basera), for about 3,00,000 construction workers, with an estimated cost of ₹1,500 crore. In the presence of Labor and Employment Minister Shri Balwantsinh Rajput, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone for the construction of Shramik Basera at Jagatpur in Ahmedabad. On this occasion, CM stated that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring that construction workers, who put their sweat into every project, have access to adequate shelter. Chief Minister also emphasized that in line with Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of “Har Hath Ko Kam, Har Hath Ka Sanman,” unorganized sector construction workers in Gujarat will receive temporary accommodation with essential amenities at Shramik Basera. Chief Minister said that the state government has started Shramik Annapurna Yojana under the Prime Minister’s guidance to provide housing and meals to construction workers. Laborers receive hot and nutritious meals at a subsidized rate of just ₹5 from over 290 Shramik Annapurna food centers across the state. The Chief Minister noted that a total of 2 crore 54 lakh meals have been distributed so far. CM also remarked that under the PM Shramyogi Maan Dhan Yojana, workers aged 60 years or older, unable to work due to age, receive a monthly pension of ₹3000. These schemes benefit over three lakh workers in the state. At the event, the Chief Minister distributed ₹6.80 lakh in assistance to 28 beneficiaries under various schemes of the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Worker’s Welfare Board. CM also launched the portal for the Shramik Basera Yojana.

During the event, Labor, Skill Development, and Employment Minister Shri Balwantsinh Rajput emphasized Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s profound concern for every worker in the country. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the state government is actively improving facilities for workers. Today, the government has initiated the construction of temporary housing at 17 sites to further these efforts. The minister also announced that the state government, focusing on the food, health, and well-being of workers, plans to establish 100 additional centers under Shramik Annapurna Yojana soon. Additionally, ‘Kaushalya – The Skill University’ has been established to provide industry-relevant skill development alongside industrial growth. He highlighted that Gujarat leads the nation in foreign investment and employment, thanks to its favorable industrial environment.

In her welcome address, Smt. Anju Sharma, Additional Principal Secretary of the Department of Labour, Skill Development, and Employment, emphasized that Shramik Basera Yojana was launched to provide rental housing to the construction workers who have significantly contributed to Gujarat’s development. Under this program, registered construction workers of the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Labor Welfare Board, along with their families, will be offered accommodation at a subsidized rent. Children of beneficiary workers aged 6 years or younger will live rent-free under this scheme. Additional Chief Secretary further affirmed the state government’s commitment to developing housing facilities for approximately 3,00,000 workers within the next three years. The accommodation will be situated within a 1 km radius of Kadiyanaka and will include amenities such as water, kitchen facilities, electricity, fans, street lights, security, medical services, and stables. It’s worth noting that around 15,000 construction workers are expected to benefit from the Shramik Basera Yojana under the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Worker’s Welfare Board.

The entire scheme will be administered transparently through the newly launched portal of the Shramik Basera Yojana, ensuring a centralized allocation of accommodations for workers. During the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Shramik Basera Yojana and Portal Launching, attendees included Ahmedabad’s MLAs, Labor Commissioner Shri Anupam Anand, District Collector Smt. Praveena D.K., Director of the Employment and Training Department Smt. Gargi Jain, Chairman of the AMC Standing Committee Shri Devang Dani, along with corporation officials and city councilors.
