Trump Plans $200 Million White House Ballroom Inspired by Mar-a-Lago
President Donald Trump is set to embark on an ambitious $200 million project to build a grand ballroom on the White House premises, according to his spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt. The initiative, which Trump will personally fund alongside unnamed private donors, aims to fulfill a longstanding wish for a large event space within the White House complex.
“For 150 years, presidents, administrations, and White House staff have envisioned a proper venue to host significant events on the grounds,” Leavitt said during a Thursday briefing. She added that construction is scheduled to begin in September, with completion expected before the end of Trump’s second term.
The ballroom, designed to accommodate up to 650 guests, will replace the current East Wing, which traditionally houses the First Lady’s offices. Renderings show a white-columned structure that mirrors the neoclassical style of the main White House building.
The project is largely inspired by Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, which he often cites as a model for grandeur and opulence. Elements from Mar-a-Lago have already made their way into the White House’s redesign under Trump. He has revamped the Oval Office by adding gold crown moldings and gold statues over the fireplace, and has altered the historic Rose Garden by removing the lawn and replacing it with pavement.
Trump, known for his affinity for lavish décor, has also hoisted two massive American flags outside the White House as part of his broader aesthetic overhaul. The new ballroom is expected to serve as the primary venue for high-profile gatherings, replacing the need for temporary event tents on the lawn when hosting visiting dignitaries.
This remodeling marks one of the most significant architectural changes to the White House in modern history.
