Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Dr. Ambedkar College Concludes with Enthusiasm

Nagpur, Aug 2025 – Dr. Ambedkar College has fulfilled Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision of education and educational standards by opening the doors of learning for the marginalized sections of society, bringing about a transformation in their lives. Expressing confidence that this college, with its glorious 60-year tradition, will continue its journey of excellence and reach new heights, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the institution should now function as a true medium of social change.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Dr. Ambedkar College, run by the Deekshabhoomi Memorial Committee. Chief Justice of India, Justice Bhushan Gavai, was present as the Guest of Honour, while Bhante Arya Nagarjun Surai Sasai, President of the Deekshabhoomi Memorial Committee, presided over the function. Also present were Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, Senior Judge of Bombay High Court Justice Chandrashekhar, Committee members Dr. Kamlatai Gavai, Sudhir Fulzhele, Rajendra Gavai, Pradeep Aglawe, and others.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s legacy of equality, equal opportunity, and the right to dream and realize those dreams, was nurtured and advanced by this very institution. The college has opened the doors of education for the marginalized and has brought transformative change in their lives. Starting with just five classrooms, five teachers, and 300 students, the college has grown to a glorious status in its Diamond Jubilee year with 6,000 students, 50 classrooms, and 40 professors. The college has excelled in various educational parameters, and there is high competition among students for admission into its various streams, he remarked.

Students Should Embrace Dr. Ambedkar’s Ideals and Strive Towards Their Goals – Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai

Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai, in his address, emphasized that while striving for personal development, students should also carry forward the underprivileged sections of society, as envisioned by Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. He highlighted the significant contributions of Dadasaheb Gaikwad, Dadasaheb Gavai, Dadasaheb Kumbhare, and Sadanand Fulzhele in the establishment and growth of the college and reminisced about its journey. Embracing Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy and following his path will be a true tribute to those who dedicated their lives to this institution, he added.

Recalling the Silver Jubilee of the Dhamma Conversion movement in 1981, he mentioned how the ashes of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar were brought to Nagpur from Mumbai and were welcomed with great reverence, reflecting the city’s spirit of communal harmony. Justice Gavai concluded his speech by reciting “Bhim Vandana,” a poem composed by poet Suresh Bhat for the Silver Jubilee Dhamma Conversion celebration.

Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bhante Arya Nagarjun Surai Sasai felicitated Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai. Five outstanding students of Dr. Ambedkar College who had excelled in various fields were also felicitated by CM Fadnavis and Chief Justice Gavai.

Dr. Deepa Panekar, Principal of Dr. Ambedkar College, delivered the welcome address and vote of thanks, while Prof. Vidya Chorapgar anchored the event.
