Hidko Couple Secures Steady Livelihood through Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme
Started with 100 Chicks, Poultry Business Now Grows to 1,000 – Earning ₹20,000 to ₹40,000 Monthly
Raipur, Aug 2025:Through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Ajit Hidko and his wife Usha Hidko from Ektakhanhar village in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district have established a stable source of income. With support from the district administration, the couple began poultry farming with just 100 chicks. Today, their business has expanded to a capacity of 1,000 chicks per month, providing them with a monthly income ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹40,000, bringing prosperity to their family.
Ajit Hidko and Usha Hidko shared that they availed a bank loan of ₹5 lakh under PMEGP, receiving a 35% subsidy which provided significant relief. Previously, they worked as agricultural laborers, earning minimal wages. However, determined to overcome financial struggles, they decided to start something new in their village — poultry farming. Their hard work, dedication, and vision have now made them economically self-reliant.
Usha Hidko recounted how they began with just 100 indigenous chicks in a small room of their mud house. Through consistent effort, training, and hard work, they now rear approximately 1,000 chickens every month, earning an income between ₹20,000 to ₹40,000. Ajit Hidko also underwent technical training from Kamdhenu University, Durg Anjora, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, and other seminars, which significantly contributed to the success of their business. The family expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for their support.
District Collector Mrs. Tulika Prajapati recently visited the Hidko’s poultry farm, appreciated their successful venture, and assured all possible support from the district administration. Usha Hidko also mentioned that she is working as a “Pashu Sakhi” (Livestock Friend) under the Bihan programme, which has further enhanced their family’s income.
