Congress Leaders Extend Heartfelt Raksha Bandhan Greetings, Emphasise Unity and Equality
New Delhi, Aug 2025 – As India celebrated the vibrant festival of Raksha Bandhan, senior Congress leaders, including MP Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, shared warm wishes, underscoring the festival’s deep cultural and emotional significance.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to X (formerly Twitter) to greet the nation, calling Raksha Bandhan “a symbol of love, trust, and faith between brothers and sisters.” She wrote:
“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all of you on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. May this sacred festival bring abundant joy to everyone’s lives.”
Her message reflected the festival’s enduring spirit, which transcends rituals to embody familial affection, mutual care, and emotional bonding.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also extended his greetings via X.
“Heartfelt greetings to all countrymen on Raksha Bandhan. I hope the bond of love and affection between brothers and sisters continues to deepen,” he posted.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge offered a broader perspective on the occasion, emphasising its inclusive and unifying nature.
“Heartfelt wishes to all on the festival of Raksha Bandhan, the celebration of the unbreakable love, trust, and affection between sisters and brothers. This unique festival rises above caste, religion, and sect, promoting mutual brotherhood and unity. It also highlights the equality and respect for women in Indian society. May this festival of Rakhi strengthen the spirit of mutual love, harmony, and cordiality in all our lives,” Kharge said.
Observed annually on Shravan Poornima, Raksha Bandhan holds a special place in Indian culture. Traditionally, sisters tie a sacred thread, or ‘rakhi,’ around their brothers’ wrists, symbolising love and a lifelong promise of protection. In return, brothers give gifts and pledge to care for their sisters.
Beyond its familial traditions, the festival is increasingly celebrated as a reminder of the values of equality, unity, and mutual respect—principles leaders across the political spectrum continue to invoke in their messages to the nation.
