EC Issues Notice to Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha Over Alleged Dual Voter IDs
Patna, Aug 2025 – The Election Commission has issued a notice to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha following allegations that he holds two voter ID cards and is registered in two separate assembly constituencies.
The controversy erupted after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav accused Sinha of electoral malpractice, a claim amplified by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid a wider debate over fake voters. Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar further stirred the issue by posting screenshots of the draft voter list showing Sinha’s name in both Lakhisarai—his assembly constituency—and Patna’s Bankipur.
Following the revelation, the Electoral Registration Officer of Bankipur has formally sought clarification from Sinha regarding his name appearing in two different constituency rolls. The notice requires him to explain the discrepancy and respond by 5 p.m. on August 14.
The matter has sparked sharp political reactions in Bihar, with opposition parties demanding accountability and transparency. Sinha, a key BJP figure in the state government, has yet to issue a public statement on the allegations.
The Election Commission’s move marks a significant development in the ongoing debate over voter list integrity in Bihar.
