Maharashtra’s ‘Medicity’ aims to provide quality healthcare to patients from neighboring states as well – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Investment worth ₹19,200 crore in Maharashtra gets the green light
Major investment in data centers and industrial parks; 60,000 direct employment opportunities to be created

Thane, Aug 2025 :‘Medicity’ is an ambitious healthcare project whose main aim is to make Nagpur one of the country’s leading medical hubs, offering international-standard healthcare facilities not only for Vidarbha but for the entire Maharashtra and neighboring states. This Medicity will house multiple super-specialty hospitals, research centers, medical education institutions, and other healthcare facilities. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and Temasek to take the lead in building this Medicity while speaking at Airoli, Navi Mumbai today.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the CapitaLand Data Center in Navi Mumbai, held in the presence of Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.

Also present on the occasion were Singapore’s Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, CapitaLand India Trust Chairman Manohar Khiatani, CapitaLand India CEO Sanjeev Dasgupta, the Chief Minister’s Chief Investment Advisor Kaustubh Dhavse, Industries Department Secretary Dr. P. Anbalagan, Konkan Divisional Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, Thane District Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal, Nagpur District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, among others.

CM Fadnavis stated that the Maharashtra government has signed an MoU with Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. and Temasek to establish a 350-bed multi-specialty hospital in Nagpur, involving a proposed investment of up to ₹700 crore. This project will generate approximately 3,000 job opportunities.

Given this, he appealed to the company to set up the Medicity in Nagpur. The primary goal of this ambitious project is to make Nagpur a premier medical hub in India, with top-class healthcare accessible to patients from across Maharashtra and neighboring states. The Medicity will include super-specialty hospitals, research centers, medical institutions, and other health services.

The Chief Minister noted that the newly inaugurated CapitaLand Data Center is “state-of-the-art” and “technologically advanced,” equipped with excellent facilities. In today’s digital economy, he said, efficiency in every sector depends on data centers, making it essential to build such capacity within the country.

CM Fadnavis highlighted that 60% of India’s total data center capacity is located in Maharashtra. A new MoU has been signed between the Maharashtra government and CapitaLand Investment Ltd., with a proposed investment of ₹19,200 crore. This investment will be driven by CapitaLand Investment and its partner companies in Maharashtra and is expected to create around 60,000 direct jobs. Projects under this agreement include business parks in Mumbai and Pune, data centers in Mumbai and Pune, and logistics and industrial parks across Maharashtra.

Additionally, an agreement worth ₹3,000 crore has been signed with Mapletree to develop logistics parks in the state. CM Fadnavis praised the speed with which the newly completed data center was built.

Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong congratulated the stakeholders on successfully completing the Navi Mumbai CapitaLand Data Center, saying Navi Mumbai is emerging as a key digital hub in India, alongside cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.

India currently has over 800 million internet users and a robust startup ecosystem, with data center demand expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. The country’s data center capacity is projected to rise from 1.2 gigawatts to 4.5 gigawatts by 2030.

This data center is part of CapitaLand’s investment in India. He expressed pleasure at CapitaLand’s agreement with the Maharashtra government to invest in projects such as business parks, logistics, and industrial parks, totaling over USD 2 billion (approx. ₹16,600 crore) in the next five years.

These investment agreements reflect the strong economic ties between Singapore and India, with the growing Indian economy offering many opportunities for Singaporean companies. Under the “India-Singapore Digital Economy” agreement, companies in both countries are enhancing cooperation in areas like digital payments and fintech. The new data center will help industries, startups, and entrepreneurs explore new opportunities in the digital age and contribute to India’s digital economy growth.

CapitaLand India CEO Sanjeev Dasgupta said India is a key market for the company, and Maharashtra’s strong fundamentals and well-developed IT and industrial ecosystem present significant opportunities. He affirmed CapitaLand’s readiness to further contribute to Maharashtra’s commercial and industrial development.
