Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga Visits John Williams Hospital, Lunglei and Christian Hospital, Serkawn

Lunglei, Aug 2025: On August 16, Mizoram Home, UD&PA and DP&AR Minister Pu K. Sapdanga visited two major hospitals in Lunglei — John Williams Hospital (managed by Mizoram Presbyterian Church) and Christian Hospital Serkawn (managed by Mizoram Baptist Church). During the visits, he interacted with the hospital staff and held discussions.

The Minister was accompanied by his wife Pi Darkhumi, Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman Pu V. Malsawmtluanga, Lunglei South MLA Pu Lalramliana Papuia, Lunglei West MLA Pu T. Lalhlimpuia, LMC Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga and councillors, UD&PA Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann, along with other officials.

At John Williams Hospital, the Minister was received by Medical Superintendent Dr. K. Lalsanga, who, along with hospital staff, briefed him on various challenges and requirements of the institution. Pu Sapdanga emphasized that hospitals play a crucial role in public service and acknowledged the valuable contributions of faith-based and private healthcare institutions. He assured continued government support and urged the staff to remain dedicated for the well-being of the people.

At Christian Hospital Serkawn, the Minister was received by Dr. B. Laldinliana, Director of the Medical & Health Department under the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM). The hospital staff shared their needs and concerns, followed by an interaction program.

Pu Sapdanga highlighted the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), launched to ensure affordable healthcare for citizens. He mentioned that a Review Committee has been set up under his chairmanship to improve the scheme’s implementation. He noted that Christian Hospital Serkawn is one of the pioneering hospitals effectively implementing MUHCS, and praised the BCM church, hospital authorities, and staff for their cooperation with the government. He expressed confidence that MUHCS will provide reliable healthcare access to the people of Mizoram.

The management of Christian Hospital Serkawn expressed gratitude, stating that under MUHCS, the hospital has been reimbursed regularly by the government without delay, enabling smooth functioning. They confirmed that on May 21, 2025, the hospital officially began implementing MUHCS, and so far, 786 patients have received treatment amounting to ₹151.75 lakh, with monthly reimbursements averaging around ₹13.2 lakh.

On the occasion, the UD&PA Department also announced the construction of a “Patient Attendants Shelter” at Christian Hospital Serkawn, designed to accommodate 5 male and 5 female attendants, providing essential facilities for those accompanying patients.
