Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii Launches Mizoram’s First “Health ATM” under Healthy Lunglei Initiative at Civil Hospital Lunglei and PHC Lungsen
Lunglei, Aug 2025: Mizoram’s first-ever Health ATM, established under the “Healthy Lunglei Initiative” and spearheaded by the Lunglei District Administration, was inaugurated today by Health & Family Welfare Minister Pi Lalrinpuii at Civil Hospital Lunglei and Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lungsen.
Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the Civil Hospital Lunglei Seminar Hall, the Minister said it was a proud and historic moment not just for Lunglei District but for the entire state of Mizoram, as the state’s first Health ATM was inaugurated. She recalled the launch of the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign in June 2024, which emphasized awareness and screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and noted how public participation had boosted healthcare efforts. The Minister said the newly launched Health ATM would be a strong addition to these initiatives.
The Health ATM will allow citizens to check their health status conveniently, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index (BMI), blood oxygen levels, and many other health indicators. Integrated with IoT (Internet of Things) technology, the system will not only provide instant results but also maintain digital health records, thereby reducing time, costs, and unnecessary visits to higher medical institutions.
Alongside this, the Minister highlighted ongoing initiatives under the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign, including:
- Project LEAP: health screening of migrant workers and assistance to around 700 beneficiaries.
- Project BLOOM: health interventions for women and children in Lungsen Aspirational Block.
She also thanked the CSR contributors — ABCI Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd, BRN, and Manav Vikas Sanstha (MVS India) — for sponsoring and supporting the Health ATMs in collaboration with the Lunglei DC Office.
The inauguration was attended by Vice Chairman of Lunglei High Powered Committee (HPC) Pu V. Malsawmtluanga, MLA Pu Lalramliana Papuia, Lunglei Municipal Council Chairman Pu Lalzuithanga, councillors, officials, NGOs, church leaders, media representatives, doctors, nurses, and nursing students. The event was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pi Zoramdini, with prayers led by Rev. V. Lalzarliana of the Baptist Church of Mizoram. Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann also expressed her gratitude for the successful implementation of the project.
On the same occasion, Pi Lalrinpuii inaugurated the Integrated Public Health Laboratory at Civil Hospital Lunglei, inspected the new Trauma Centre building, and reviewed upcoming facilities under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), including a new ICU ward.
The Health ATMs at Civil Hospital Lunglei and PHC Lungsen are equipped to perform around 35 types of tests, covering general health, cardiac and respiratory indicators, vision, and mental health screenings. The kiosks also provide guidance on diet and healthy lifestyle practices. Tests can be done quickly, results are delivered instantly, and reports can be accessed directly on mobile phones.
