India’s Democracy is Strong and Secure, No Threat to It — Citizens Must Stay Alert Against Misleading Forces: Rajasthan Assembly Speaker

From Vedas to Constitution: India’s Democratic Journey Highlighted at All India Speakers’ Conference

Jaipur, Aug 2025 : Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Shri Vasudev Devnani affirmed that India’s democracy is strong and faces no threat. He emphasized that the roots of India’s Constitution are deeply entrenched and cannot be uprooted. Calling for unity among citizens, he said that India must work collectively to send a message of harmony to the world. At the same time, he cautioned people to remain vigilant against forces spreading misinformation.

Addressing the All India Speakers’ Conference organized by the Delhi Assembly on Sunday, Shri Devnani said that India’s democratic journey spans from the Vedas to the Constitution, proving that democracy is not just a modern phenomenon but an integral tradition deeply embedded in the nation’s soul for centuries. He proudly stated that “India is truly the mother of democracy.”

Highlighting India’s civilizational depth, Shri Devnani noted that while other parts of the world were still dependent on hunting and clothing themselves with tree bark, India’s Vedic literature had already laid down mature concepts of politics and governance. He added that republics, democracy, and the idea of a nation had not only developed in ancient India but were also deeply deliberated upon in its scriptures, encompassing geo-political, cultural, and sovereign dimensions.

Shri Devnani stressed that India being the world’s largest democracy is not just a matter of population size but also of its democratic structure, traditions, and inclusive participation. He underlined that India’s democracy, enshrined in the Constitution, is not merely a political system but a living social discipline rooted in unity in diversity, freedom of thought, universal suffrage, and commitment to justice.

He said that free and fair elections, an independent judiciary, a vibrant Parliament, active media, and a strong civil society are proof of the resilience and depth of India’s democracy.

The two-day conference is being attended by nearly 60 presiding officers and deputy speakers of state assemblies and legislative councils across India. The inaugural session featured Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, Delhi Lt. Governor Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, and Delhi Assembly Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta. On this occasion, the Delhi Assembly also celebrated the centenary of Shri Vithalbhai Patel, the first elected Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly.
