Security Lapses at Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ as Fan Breaks Cordons, Kisses Him
Bihar, Aug 2025 — Serious questions have been raised about the security arrangements during Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s bike rally, the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’, after a video surfaced on social media showing a fan breaking the cordon to kiss him.
The incident occurred on Sunday in Araria, Purnia district, when Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav rode a motorcycle together as part of the 1,300-km yatra. In the viral clip, an enthusiastic supporter pushed through the crowd and kissed the Congress leader. Moments later, security personnel intervened, with one of Rahul’s bodyguards—who had been riding pillion on Tejashwi Yadav’s bike—slapping the man before shooing him away.
Eyewitnesses reported that throughout the rally, several supporters managed to get close to Gandhi, with some hugging him or pulling at his hand while he rode. While such interactions showcased his popularity, they also exposed significant lapses in his protective cover.
The ‘Voter Rights Yatra’, which began from Sasaram on August 17, is set to cover over 20 districts across Bihar in 16 days and will conclude with a major rally in Patna on September 1.
The viral video has sparked debate online over Rahul Gandhi’s security. One user wrote: “I hope the state government will provide proper security considering his growing popularity in India.” Another warned, “Yes, this needs to be taken seriously. Don’t forget, RSS is present. Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were assassinated.”
As the yatra continues to draw large crowds, Congress supporters and political analysts alike are urging authorities to ensure robust security measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
