Nanded–Mumbai ‘Vande Bharat Express’ Opens the Gateway to Marathwada’s Prosperity – CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : The government is prioritising improved connectivity for the development of Marathwada. With the launch of the Vande Bharat Express, Nanded city is now better connected to Mumbai. This will certainly open the gateway to Marathwada’s prosperity, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The Nanded–Mumbai Vande Bharat Express was flagged off from Nanded railway station, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis giving the green signal online from Mantralaya. The programme, organised at Mantralaya, was attended by Minister of State for Public Health Meghna Bordikar Sakore, Central Railway General Manager Dharmveer Meena, Principal Chief Operations Manager Shyam Sundar Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Avnish Kumar Pandey, Divisional Railway Manager Hiraish Meena, among others.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways is undergoing a transformation. The indigenously manufactured Vande Bharat Express, offering modern facilities comparable to those in developed nations, is a symbol of this change. The 610 km journey from Mumbai to Nanded will now be completed in 9 to 9.5 hours. Previously running only up to Jalna, the train will now extend its service up to Hazur Sahib Nanded. Its capacity has been increased from 500 to 1,440 passengers, with coaches expanded from 8 to 20.

Highlighting Nanded’s importance as a major Sikh pilgrimage site, CM Fadnavis said that devotees and passengers visiting the city will now experience fast and comfortable travel through the Vande Bharat Express. He congratulated the people of Marathwada on this safe, convenient, and comfortable travel facility.

At the inauguration programme in Nanded, MP Ashok Chavan, MP Dr. Ajit Gopchhade, MLA Vikram Kale, District Collector Rahul Kardile, Police Deputy Inspector General of Nanded Range Shaha ji Umap, Superintendent of Police Abhinash Kumar, and DMR Pradeep Kamble were present.

  • The first Vande Bharat Express connecting Nanded in Marathwada with the state capital Mumbai.
  • Covers the 610 km journey in just 9 hours 30 minutes, significantly reducing travel time compared to other trains.
  • Provides fast, safe, and comfortable fully air-conditioned daytime travel between major tourist and religious destinations in Maharashtra.
  • The service will operate six days a week—departing Hazur Sahib Nanded daily except Wednesday, and from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus daily except Thursday.
  • Highly beneficial for regular commuters, devotees, officials, and traders.
  • Makes travel to tourism and pilgrimage centres faster and easier.
