Chief Minister’s Nutritious Meal Scheme – A Very Special Initiative!

Following Tamil Nadu’s example, the Punjab State Government has decided and announced that the Nutritious Meal Scheme will also be implemented in Punjab!
This was stated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab, Mr. Bhagwant Mann.

The Nutritious Meal Scheme for school children, a special program of Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin, is being successfully implemented in Tamil Nadu. The expansion ceremony of this scheme was held today (26.08.2025) at St. Joseph’s Primary School, Alappakkam, covering all government and government-aided primary schools in urban areas of Tamil Nadu.

At the kind invitation of Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin, Hon’ble Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann participated as the special guest in this event. He appreciated the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and announced that this scheme will be soon introduced in Punjab as well after approval in the Punjab State Cabinet.

Hon’ble Punjab Chief Minister first thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the invitation and praised the excellent initiatives of the Tamil Nadu Government in the fields of education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Highlighting the close ties between Punjab and Tamil Nadu, he stressed the importance of welfare schemes like the Nutritious Meal Scheme.

He said, “We are also considering and preparing to implement this scheme in our State. It is heartening to know that more than 20 lakh (2 million) children in Tamil Nadu benefit from it.”

The scheme has now been expanded to include all government and government-aided urban schools. It aims to provide nutritious food to children, improve enrollment, and enhance learning ability. The Punjab Chief Minister also pointed out that Tamil Nadu’s model highlights inter-state cooperation in tackling social issues and introducing welfare programs.

He further said:
“The Tamil Nadu Government started this Nutritious Meal Scheme to provide balanced food for school children. As a result, children get wholesome meals daily, which helps them focus on their studies and improve their health. This contributes to their overall development and academic progress. Looking at Tamil Nadu’s development path, one can see that Mr. M.K. Stalin is truly a people’s leader.”

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister emphasized:
“Dear students, this is a scheme made especially for you by this Dravidian Model Government. You are fortunate to have a Chief Minister who always works for your welfare. Are you all happy?”

The children loudly responded with a cheerful “Yes!”

Continuing further, Hon’ble Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann said:
“Tamil Nadu’s Nutritious Meal Scheme is a very innovative initiative. It stands as a model program for the Union Government as well as for other States. This wonderful scheme will be immediately approved by our Cabinet and implemented in Punjab soon.”
