  • AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal meets with party MLAs, councillors, and former candidates

New Delhi, Aug 2025 – Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), met with party legislators, municipal councilors, and former candidates on Thursday to engage in dialogue. During this meeting, he criticized the BJP and the Modi Government over Trump’s tariffs, the persecution of AAP leaders through fabricated cases, and the deteriorating governance in Delhi. He stated that they would sacrifice their life for the country, but would not make any compromises for power, party, or family.

Kejriwal remarked that Trump imposed a 50% tariff while Modi government is kneeling before him, asserting that the entire country knows Modi government has mortgaged the nation for one person. He mentioned that there is an alliance between Congress and BJP, noting that the BJP has imprisoned AAP leaders in false cases, while no member of the Gandhi family has spent time in jail despite serious allegations like the National Herald case.

Kejriwal explained that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided Saurabh Bharadwaj’s house on Tuesday, adding that they conducted searches starting at around 7:15 AM and finalized his statement by approximately 8 PM. Just as the ED officials were preparing to leave after sending Bharadwaj’s statement to their superiors for review, they claimed that it was too lengthy and suggested removing unnecessary portions. Bharadwaj resisted this suggestion, insisting that it was his statement and could not be altered.

Bharadwaj detailed in his statement the meetings he held to facilitate hospital construction and the directives he issued to officers, which served as evidence in his favor. However, the ED official insisted that such details were unnecessary and sought to remove them. Kejriwal reported that the ED began to pressure Bharadwaj and made implicit threats of arrest. Bharadwaj stood firm, indicating his resolve to accept imprisonment for two years if necessary, just as Kejriwal and other leaders had done.

Afterward, the ED made attempts to intimidate Bharadwaj’s wife, but she retorted that he often wasn’t home and that they could take him away without it affecting them. Bharadwaj’s entire family stood by him, demonstrating solidarity in their resistance.

Kejriwal shared this narrative to illustrate the historical precedent of political persecution, noting that similar tactics have occurred throughout history. He emphasized that while in olden times, people resorted to murder, now political opponents are sent to jail under false charges.

Kejriwal mentioned that various individuals approach him to suggest making compromises, but he opposes the politics of compromise, stressing that it is incorrect to assume discussions in closed rooms will remain undisclosed to the public. He highlighted that people are not foolish and remain informed about political dynamics, including rumors of compromises between the Congress and the BJP.

Continuing, he noted that for six months, the BJP has governed Delhi poorly. He expressed a belief in divine justice, asserting that the recent situation under BJP has shown the citizens how good the AAP governance was compared to the present. He cited interactions with the public who gauge AAP’s potential to secure 60, 65, or even 70 seats if elections were held today.

Kejriwal pointed out that for ten years under AAP, there were no power cuts in any area of Delhi, in contrast to the current situation where people face frequent power outages, leading to widespread frustration. He emphasized that services have deteriorated, roads are in disrepair, and the living conditions for the poor have worsened under BJP governance.

He compared the current plight in Delhi to the state of affairs during Congress’s 15-year rule, which led to the rise of AAP. Now, he believes that the BJP has similarly ruined Delhi in just six months, even though the citizens won’t have the chance to remove them until the next elections.

Kejriwal condemned the 50% tariffs imposed by the US on India, stating that it has halted exports and threatened many industries and jobs in the country. He discussed the global context of tariffs and emphasized that Modi government should have responded with countermoves instead of capitulating to Trump. Interestingly, he noted that Modi government had reduced the import duty on cotton to zero, indicating an surrendering stance.

In closing, Kejriwal directed AAP legislators, councilors, and former candidates to remain engaged with the public. He warned that the BJP government is likely to discontinue electricity subsidies which have proven troublesome for them. Thus, he urged his team to always stand with the citizens and take on their challenges, confident that Allah has a message for them: they will be given another chance to govern in the next elections.
