Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Urges PM Modi to Release Pending ₹60,000 Crore Funds Amid Flood Crisis
Chandigarh, Aug 2025 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking urgent financial assistance as the state battles one of its most severe floods in recent history. Mann urged the Centre to immediately release Punjab’s pending ₹60,000 crore funds and called for amendments to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) rules to allow enhanced compensation for farmers.
The CM said the Punjab government is prepared to provide ₹50,000 per acre compensation to affected farmers but requires the Centre’s approval. He highlighted that over 1,000 villages and lakhs of people have been impacted, with nearly 3 lakh acres of farmland submerged.
The districts of Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Fazilka, and Hoshiarpur are the worst affected. Mann emphasized that swift central support is essential to help Punjab recover from the unprecedented devastation.
